The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky (NKFK)seeks to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increase the availablility of all organs for transplantation.
Description:
The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky is dedicated to bringing awareness to the threat that kidney disease poses, educating the public about preventing or delaying the onset of kidney disease, promoting the importance of organ donation, and providing assistance and education to dialysis and transplant patients.
History:
In 1967, a group of concerned citizens in the Louisville area sougt to make lives better for dialysis patients and established a non-profit organization to help in the fight against kidney disease. Steadfast in its mission, the NKFK expanded the founders' original programs to include prevention, more patient services, and a commitment to a national research program.
