The Woodford County 4-H Council coordinates the 4-H Youth Development program of the Woodford County Cooperative Extension Service. It serves as an advisory group to provide direction, set policy, provide financial support and evaluate the 4-H Youth Development program.

Description:
The Woodford County 4-H Youth Development program includes volunteer-led 4-H project clubs for youth ages 9-19 who live or go to school in Woodford County. It also includes a school enrichment program, teen leadership development, a summer camping program and a variety of educational programs and events. Educational programs focus on leadership, citizenship, agriculture, family consumer science, science, engineering and technology, health and communications.
Adult and teen Volunteers serve as council members, club leaders, project or activity leaders, camp counselors, judges and event coordinators. Volunteers serving in a role with direct contact to youth must first complete the youth protection guidelines.
People who volunteer with 4-H enjoy teaching life skills to young people. Volunteers do not have to have a background in 4-H, agriculture or home economics. The Woodford County 4-H Council provides educational opportunities for volunteers.
Current 4-H clubs include a Horse & Pony Club, a Livestock Club, a Dog club, a sewing club, a teen leadership club and a homeschool club. New clubs are organized as interests and resources allow. A new 4-H club needs at least five (5) youth and one adult volunteer.

History:
The Woodford County 4-H Council was organized over 70 years ago to provide support to local 4-H clubs. It is a part of the Woodford County Cooperative Extension Service which is supported through the the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. Funding for the Cooperative Extension Service is provided through a partnership of county, state and federal tax dollars.
