The purpose of the Morehead State University-Retired and Senior Volunteer Program(RSVP) is to provide challenging and satisfying volunteer assignments for people 55 plus, thus enabling them to remain active and to serve their communities in a volunteer capacity.
Description:
The RSVP program at Morehead State University serves the 5 Gateway Counties: Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan County. We recruit and place volunteers 55 years of age and older in non-profit organizations to provide volunteer service. RSVP volunteers use their life experience and skills to answer the call of their neighbors need. Giving anywhere from four to 40 hours a week, RSVP volunteers help solve serious problems in their own communities. Among their many accomplishments, RSVP volunteers provide food for the homeless and hungry, provide tutoring/mentoring to elementary schools, volunteer with senior citizens centers, homemakers, food pantries, nursing homes, hospitals, and many other non-profit organizations.
History:
The RSVP program at Morehead State University has been funded through the Corporation for National Service for over 15 years. The program began with serving only three counties, and was later extended to serving five counties. The United Way of the Bluegrass has been very beneficial in our overall success in Montgomery County. We are very fortunate to have the continued support of local agencies.
