Home At Last Animal Sanctuary is organized for the charitable and educational purposes of providing humane and ethical care and shelter for homeless animals, providing educational programs and materials relating to the care of animals, and working to prevent neglect and abuse, and exploitation of animals. We dedicate our efforts and resources to companion and farmed animals and wildlife while conveying a message of "compassion for all species."
Description:
Home At Last (HAL) provides lifetime care for abandoned or abused dogs, cats, pigs, cows, rabbits, horses and other animals as deemed appropriate. We rescue animals from the street and communicate with local shelters to provide assistance to animals in immediate need. HAL promotes the concept of harmlessness in the operation of the sanctuary. HAL provides spay/neuter assistance to the community as funds allow. HAL maintains an active re-homing program for adoptable animals. HAL maintains a spay/neuter policy for all HAL animals, unless deemed a health risk by a veterinarian. HAL will humanely euthanize animals ONLY in cases of failed health, extreme pain, or when other health factors make it impossible for an animal to enjoy a reasonable quality of life; HAL will NEVER euthanize animals to control the population at the sanctuary. HAL encourages a vegan lifestyle for humans and companion animals.
History:
Home At Last was organized in 1997 by a small group of animal advocates and is located in rural central Kentucky. Looking for way to combine hands-on rescue while educating the community about animal welfare issues such as overpopulation and factory farming, Home At Last was born. In our brief existence, we have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of animals who have either come to live out their lives at the sanctuary or who have been re-homed through our adoption program. We are a unique organization because while many groups rescue companion animals, or farmed animals or practice vegetarian feeding, we do all three. Not only that, we are accredited by the American Sanctuary Association.
