History:
The Race for Education is a national education scholarship foundation funded by various parties related to or with an interest in the equine industry. It is a nonprofit 501 (C) (3) organization established to improve the quality of life for young people through education, attract younger, better educated individuals to careers in the equine industry and help establish the equine industry as a good citizen in the community.

We believe young people are the future of our industry. Their development will help create dedicated fans, employees and hopefully the horsemen of tomorrow.

Since its founding in 2002, The Race For Education has awarded college scholarships to students in approximately 40 states from a broad variety of backgrounds with varied scholastic pursuits. As our students graduate, we will assist them in finding jobs within the equine industry.

Our scholarships are need-based, with our main focus on the average student (2.85 GPA) who might not have the opportunity for other financial aid. We strive to find individuals that have the ability and the desire to give back to the community.

A selection committee made up of industry professionals and independent of our Board of Directors evaluates the applications. Each student receives a score in four weighted categories: financial need (25%), academic (20%), personal interview (20%), essay (15%) and personal interview (20%). In most cases, once a student has been selected, we make a commitment to fund, or help secure funding via matching donations or other scholarship programs, the student's complete undergraduate education, providing he or she maintains a 2.85 GPA and provides our Board with progress report each semester.

The Race For Education's primary source of funding is the Racehorse Nomination Program, in which horse owners donate a percentage of their racehorses' earnings to the scholarship program. Annual fundraisers include The Race For Education 5K/10K Run held in beautiful Midway, Kentucky each October and the Thoroughbred Charities of America Stallion Season Auction in December.

One hundred percent of all donations to The Race For Education go toward its scholarships and other educational programs.

As of May 2008, The Race For Education has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to over 200 students.
