The Mission of Actors Guild of Lexington is to produce quality live professional theatre that stimulates, engages and entertains; elevates the quality of life for citizens of the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky; and affirms the commonality of human experience; through sustained production excellence and educational outreach.
Description:
Actors Guild of Lexington aspires to be a leader in the cultural community of Central Kentucky by producing quality professional theatre that illuminates and examines the common humanity found within all of us. We affirm that theatre can and should entertain, enlighten, stimulate, inspire, provoke, question, elevate, transform, uplift, challenge and awaken. We believe theatre can and should generate meaningful public discourse, and be truly public: responsive to the evolution of our community and accessible to a broad cross-section of our populace. Actors Guild of Lexington will share and celebrate stories from across the spectrum of time and place, while simultaneously reminding our community of timeless themes and universal interconnectedness.
History:
Actors Guild of Lexington is central Kentucky’s premiere professional not-for-profit theatre company. Currently in our 24th season AGL annually presents a season of six productions, ranging from new works to classics, comedies, dramas and musicals; AGL is Lexington’s only professional theatre for adult audiences. In addition to our main stage season, last year, AGL in partnership with LexArts, the Pick Up Performance Company and Paragon Music Theatre, co-produced 3 summer events: Dancing Henry Five, Love’s Labor’s Lost at Equus Run Vineyard and Kiss Me, Kate. These three productions provided for high quality programming throughout the summer. With the overwhelming success of the Shakespeare at Equus Run venture, attracting nearly 2,000 people to the five performances and expanding our audience base to a truly regional scope, we are returning to the Vineyard June 12-28 of 2008 to produce The Merry Wives of Windsor. Our successful debut was featured in the spring 2008 issue of Southern Theatre magazine.
