The Maker's Mark Secretariat Center is dedicated to the re-schooling and adoption of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses.
Description:
The Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center is a Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation facility located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Although one of the 33 TRF facilities around the country, the MMSC is unique. The 22 acre complex is a jewel of a property with a well appointed 10 stall barn, fenced paddocks, an arena and two round pens. The MMSC is setting the standard for the re-schooling of ex-racehorses, and opens its doors not just to TRF horses, but to horses from a host of different rescue organizations as well as individuals. Its goal is to garner the best exemplars of the Thoroughbred breed, assess their talents and predilections and redirect them to other arenas. Doing so displays and promotes the inherent athleticism of this remarkable breed, stems the flow of horses sent to slaughter, and shows how the Thoroughbred industry supports its own in a time when racing is under public scrutiny.
