The mission of Operation Happiness is to share time, money and resources with those in need at Christmas.
Description:
Operation Happiness is a local Christmas project that helps needy families with food, toys and coats the week before Christmas. It is organized by the Winchester/Clark County Association of Churches. Over 1500 Clark County families benefit form this project. Winchester supports those in need in our community. This is a way you can help your neighbors have a more joyful Christmas. It's what makes this such a great place to live. Neighbor helping neighbor - it's the only way!
History:
The Christmas basket program made its debut here in November 1970 at a time when it appeared no agency was going to volunteer to shepherd the basket program and to serve as a clearinghouse for names submitted. Then Operation Happiness, initially sponsored by the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce, made its debut. Two years later the Clark County Ministerial Association, now the Association of Churches, assumed responsibility for the program, and has overseen it ever since.
