All God's Children provides a safe home for abused and neglected teens and their babies. We serve not only as a temporary shelter for these children, but we also provide a comprehensive range of programs and services to strengthen their overall physical, emotional, educational and spiritual well being.
Description:
All God's Children, Inc. (AGC) is a private, non-denominaitonal, non-profit residential home for "in crisis" (abused and neglected) teen moms and their babies. There are very few exclusive mother and baby homes in Kentucky , and very few nationwide. There are maternity homes, but AGC is unique because its services are designed to help a new mother become the best parent she can be, thereby attempting to break the devastating cycle of physical and sexual abuse and neglect that our residents have endured prior to coming to us. The need is so great for a residential home like ours, that there is often a waiting list.
History:
Oct. 1, 1996- AGC was incorporated in the state of Kentucky March 13, 1997- AGC Received tax exempt status from Internal Revenue Service. November 19,1998- The Jessamine County-City of Wilmore Joint Board of Adjustments unanimously approved AGC's request for a conditional use permit to operate a mother & baby home on the property. March 1, 1999- AGC took possession of the building and land (leased) at its current location. This historic Pre-Civil War home located just south of the Nicholasville city limits was added in 1984 to the National Register of Historic Places. March 14, 1999- An open house, dedication and ribbon ceremony was held at AGC. April 5, 1999- Our first residents were admitted. We had 6 residents at the end of the first month of operation. July & August 1999- volunteers renovated our 3 car garage into AGC's first office space complete with 3 offices and a reception area. October 27, 1999- We were able to secure grants, donations, low-interest loans and local bank loans to close on the property and house we had been leasing since March of 1999. March 2000- The entire roof of the old home was replaced. A grant from Kentucky Housing Corp. paid for 100% of the cost. July and August 2000- Volunteers built a new 810-foot day care center from ground up. It was ready to accept children at the start of the school year in August, complete with a state-approved day care license. January 2002- AGC purchased a newly constructed three-unit apartment complex that serves as housing for our Independent Living program, a natural progression after residents complete the basic program at the Mother and baby home. July 2004- We began the long and tedious effort at achieving accreditation status with the Council on Accreditation. November 2004- Our Board of Directors agreed to pursue the construction of a new office complex, day care addition and training facility on AGC grounds. December 30, 2005- AGC was awarded Accreditation Status from the Council on Accreditation.
