Provide information and referrals for the blind and visually impaired and their families without regard to age, gender, race or religion.
Description:
The Blue Grass Council of the Blind seeks to make life more pleasant and meaningful and as nearly normal as possible for those who have lost their sight or who have limited vision. The BGCB seeks to educate the public about the needs, aspirations and achievements of the visually impaired. We have a support group meeting once a month with speakers or activities. We do outings whenever possible. Our main goal is to provide as much information to the blind and visually impaired as possible. (Information that will help them make their lives better and allow them to live more independently.)
History:
Our date of organization was 9/7/1978. Cyrus Bayer was the Council's founder and first director. Mr. Bayer went to sleep and woke up 90% blind. In his quest to deal with blindness, he established a place to help blind and visually impaired people to have a career and the right attitude.
