To provide employment opportunities to individuals in our community who have experienced barriers to employment due to mental, physical, developmental and substance abuse disabilities.
Description:
AccuTran provides quality vocational skills that are developed through hands on experience with in house sub-contracting work. This is also done through vocational evalution tools that measure strengths, needs and interests. We bring work into our shop to provide opportunities for our workers to earn income and build their self esteem. Without our agency 25 adults would have nothing to do and would become couch potatoes. Our adults that have never had a job are now working and receiving pay checks.
History:
Efforts to establish a program in Bourbon County for mentally handicapped adults began in 1969. In 1972 a grant from the Bluegrass Association for Mental Retardation was received and the Bourbon County Adult Training was established. The program focused on social, recreatinal and job training activities. In 1984 the training center broke away from the Association and became AccuTran. Thru the years AccuTran has grown and now has a totally handicapped accessible faciltiy and employs mental and physically handicapped adults.
