Meteer School is a non-profit Infant/Toddler and Preschool Program which offers specialized programs for special needs children, birth through school age. Meteer School also offers day care services during the school year and a summer program during the months of June, July and August.
Description:
Meteer School's daily schedule includes transportation to and from school, breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack, group and individual work, supervised free play, and occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy, if needed. The goal for each child who attends Meteer School is to obtain a higher degree of self-sufficiency and independence through individual, group and supervised free play.
History:
Meteer School started in 1976 as a day care for special needs children through a Title XX grant. In 1981, land was donated and with community effort, a log duplex building was built. In 1982, Meteer School became the first daycare in the State of Kentucky to be certified as a preschool for special needs children. School systems contracted with Meteer School to provide education and therapy to children who needed additional assistance before entering public school. In 2001, Meteer School expanded its services to include a year-round daycare and now serves a capacity of 60 children, ages birth through school age.
