The Hope Center is a private, nonprofit organization which coordinates and provides life sustaining/life rebuilding services to Lexington's homeless and at-risk persons; including food, shelter, counseling, education, spiritual needs, employment counseling, and referrals.
Description:
After meeting the basic needs of food and shelter for the homeless population, the Hope Center then delivers programs designed to recover and rehabilitate individuals back into the community.
History:
The Hope Center has its roots in The Community Kitchen which was founded in 1980 to respond to the increasing number of people seeking food at inner city churches. The Hope Center facility opened in June 1993, with a total of 116 beds. The Center has operated over capacity since opening and is currently sleeping an average of 150 persons per night.
