The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet the human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description:
The Salvation Army serves the under-privileged sector of the Bluegrass. A wide array of services are provided ranging from tangible assistance with food, clothing, diapers, formula, personal care kits, cleaning supplies, furniture, lodging, transportation and medical care, to the intangible resources such as: information and referral, education and counselfing, case management, support netwroks and skill building.
History:
The Salvation Army, founded in 1865, came to Lexington Kentucky in 1896. Whether a simple gift of a donut to a tembling soldier over 80 years ago or paying the way to send a child to camp today, a central force of the Army is its giving. The mission of The Salvation Army is to respond to specific crisis situations by trying to raise hope in the hearts and minds of people, to help individuals and families break the cycle of poverty and helping them to help the themselves. However, our greatest challenge in the 21st century is to continue to develop relevant programs and services that address the needs of our community.
