Our goal is to lessen the trauma experienced by child victims of sexual abuse as their cases move through the criminal justice system. Our mission is also to improve community response to child sexual abuse by providing a safe, non-threatening location for children and non-offending caretakers during the intervention process.
Description:
Every year the reported number of children being abused continues to climb. The Center serves approximately 500 children every year. We provide services to the entire 17 county region for any child or adolescent up to age 18 who is a victim of sexual abuse, as well as providing support services for non-offending caregivers. The Center provides forensic interviewing, medical examinations, advocacy and therapy. When a report of sexual abuse is made, several agencies become involved in the investigation and treatment of the child. This can be frightening and confusing for children and families. The Center coordinates the services of medical, mental health, law enforcement, social services under one roof to ensure that children are protected and treated with respect.
History:
The Center was founded in May of 1994. Thanks to a dedicated group of citizens who were concerned about the treatment of children experiencing the investigation, intervention, prosecution process for child victims of sexual abuse.
