Our mission is to build a health ministry, within the context of Christianity, that ministers to the spiritual, physical, intellectual, economic needs of the total person.
Description:
The Berea Health Ministry was opened in November of 2003. To date l,200 individuals have been treated. The clinic was opened to provide affordable health care to individuals who do not have health insurance or the financial means to seek health care. Citizens of Berea, and surrounding counties including, but not limited to, Clay, Estill, Garrard, Jackson, Laurel, Madison and Rockcastle will be served. Our clinic has three paid staff members. They include one office manager, one full time Nurse Practitioner and one Director. We are always in need of volunteers. We need LPn & RN nurses, nurse and physician assistiants, social workers, registered dietitians, physicians, counseling specialist, and clerical volunteers. Volunteers are crucial to the success of the clinic.
History:
A group of EKU health students, supervised by Dr. Cora Withrow, conducted a health fair in Berea, Ky. Citizens from several surrounding counties were treated at the health fair. The students discovered that many of those attending the health fair were in severe need of health care but had no insurance or the financial means to see a doctor. With help and direction under the supervision of Dr Withrow, and a board of directors, the health ministry as a dream, became a reality.
