The Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center strives to eradicate sexual assault and abuse by promoting individual and community empowerment through education, training, and therapeutic healing. BRCC also endeavors to provide comprehensive services to all rape victims and rape awareness/prevention education to the entire community.
Description:
The Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center serves a 17-county region and provides services including the following: 24-hour crisis line; crisis intervention counseling for sexual assault survivors as well as their family and friends; legal and medical information; advocacy for survivors by accompaniment to the hospital ER, to the police station, and to court; in-service trainings for professionals; age-appropriate educational programs; service to Spanish-speaking clients; groups for survivors of rape/sexual abuse; and long-term therapy for survivors.
History:
The Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center was incorporated in 1974 as the Lexington Rape Crisis Center. It was the first rape crisis center in Kentucky and one of the first in the nation. Over the years the agency has grown from an all-volunteer staff to 20 paid employees with a total of 8 offices serving the 17 counties of the Bluegrass Area Development District.
