Central Kentucky Radio Eye (CKRE) assists people with vision loss and other disabilities to reach their potential and live independently through access to (printed) news and information.

Description:
CKRE is a Radio Reading Service for blind and print-handicapped individuals in Central Kentucky.

With the help of volunteer readers, CKRE broadcasts the reading of newspapers, magazines, health periodicals, and other programming for its listeners who tune into the service throughout their day.
CKRE's 24 hour-a-day programming is heard on special radios, in homes and hospitals, on the Internet at www.RadioEye.org and also on cable TV (Library Channel 20 from 8am to 10am M-Sat.

History:
CKRE has been in continuous operation since 1990. The broadcasting studios are located on the University of Kentucky campus, broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on a sub-carrier frequency of WUKY public radio. CKRE's service is free to visually and physically disabled listeners in our broadcast area.

Over 100 volunteers help a staff of two provide the service.
