The Woodford Humane Society believes that animals, as living creatures, have value beyond economic measurement and are entitled to legal, moral and ethical consideration and protection. Our mission is to: Act as an advocate on behalf of animals and as an enforcer of their rights; Provide for the well-being of our community's animals who are abandoned, injured, subject to unfair or cruel treatments, or otherwise in need; Cultivate in the people of our community an awareness of the animals whose world we share; and instill respect for and appreciation of all living things.
Description:
The Woodford Humane Society is a non-profit animal advocacy group in Versailles, Kentucky. We serve as the shelter to all the homeless, unwanted and unloved animals in Woodford County, and accept animals from surrounding counties and even other states. The Woodford Humane Society has welcomed hundreds of animals every year since it began operations in 1975, and strives to find good, loving homes for each of them. While cats and dogs are prevalent, the shelter has been a temporary home for everything from rabbits and pot-bellied pigs to goats and snakes.
We have joined in a nationwide campaign called "No More Homeless Pets." The mission of this effort is "to help bring about a time when no homeless, unwanted animals are being destroyed in shelters, and when every cat and dog that's ever born can be guaranteed a good life with a loving family." Here at the Woodford Humane Society, we are striving toward this goal through S.A.V.E., an acronym that stands for: (S) Spay/neuter programs to reduce overpopulation (A) Adoption programs to increase the number of animals placed into their forever home (V) Volunteer programs that expand our ability to serve the community (E) Educational programs to heighten awareness of the need for humane treatment of all animals
