The mission of the Henry Clay Memorial Foundation is to preserve Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate as a National Historic Landmark and educational center for the cultural and social history of the 19th century and specifically to interpret the life and times of Henry Clay, the Clay family and other residents of Ashland for the general public.

Description:
The Henry Clay Memorial Foundation is a non-profit agency which owns and operates Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate. Ashland offers regular guided tours of the mansion, as well as special activities for children and many other types of educational programming. Ashland's wooded seventeen-acre site includes the eighteen-room mansion, walled formal garden, walking trails, and historic outbuildings.

History:
After Henry Clay and four generations of his family had occupied Ashland, the estate opened to the public in 1950 as a house museum. Ashland is also a designated National Historic Historic Landmark. In recent years annual visitation has averaged 18,000. The grounds are open from dawn to dusk to the public and thousands of visitors take advantage of the park-like setting.
