The mission of the nonprofit Dry Stone Conservancy is to revive and promote the ancient craft of dry stone masonry and to preserve existing dry stone structures.
Description:
The Dry Stone Conservancy's primary goals are to: 1. Revive and maintain the lost craft of dry stone construction; 2. Conserve existing dry stone structures through repair and reconstruction; and 3. Advocate for public education on the craft of dry stone construction. The DSC holds workshops for the public and training and certification programs for masons. The DSC has a reference library and a referral list of certified dry stone masons are available to the public.
History:
The Dry Stone Conservancy was formed in 1995 by a group of central Kentucky citizens concerned for the preservation of old stone structures, particularly the rock fences of the Bluegrass. Staff includes an Executive Director, Restoration Manager, and Master Craftsman / Training Program Manager.
