Nathaniel United Methodist Mission By-laws state the mission will "provide a place of worship and a community center for the Irishtown and Davis Bottom neighborhoods." The services provided to the community where the Mission resides include free health care, dental care, free pharmacy, food pantry, youth and children's services, after school activities for elementary through high school age students, and after school arts, music and dance programs.

Nathaniel United Methodist mission, established in 1946, is a mission of the Lexington District, Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. It is located in inner city Lexington a few blocks southwest of Rupp Arena,the central business district, and adjacent to the University of Kentucky. The neighborhoods served; Irishtown, Davis Town, Speigel Heights, Pralltown, and Thompson Addition; are among the oldest and most economically depressed in Lexington. The services include , but are not limited to: worship, Christian nurture, food, emergency assistance, tutoring, and after school care, commuity education and recreation, and health, dental, eye, pharmaceutical and veterinary services. Residents from the area and members of the church have the opportunity to utilize all services offered at the Mission. Many are the "working poor" and most are not eligble for public assistance programs.
History:
Nathaniel United Methodist mission, established in 1946, is a mission of the Lexington District, Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. It is located in inner city Lexington a few blocks southwest of Rupp Arena, the central business district, and adjacent to the Univesity of Kentucky. There are agreements with the College of Medicine, Dentistry, Education and the College of Nursing through the Good Samaritan Nursing Center. Medical professionals and medical interns serve in the free clinic in a regular and ongoing basis. The neighborhoods served; Irishtoen, Davis Town, Speigel Heights, Pralltown, and Thompson Addition; are among the oldest and most economically depressed in Lexington. Financial support for the Mission and its many activities is provided by local churches of all denominations, individuals, and civic organizations. The mission has over 320 volunteers and more than 600 persons serve temporary work projects each year. Grants have been received from the Kentucky Annual Conference Urban Ministries Fund, the Kentucky United Methodist Foundation, Suburban Women's Club, Kentucky Medical Society, General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, The Franklin Williams Company, and the Good Samaritan Foundation. The mission has an annual fundraiser in May of each year called the March for the Mission.
