Description:
God's Pantry Food Bank is a member of America's Second Harvest, the Nation's Food Bank Network. The mission of America's Second Harvest is to create a hunger-free America. Our network includes more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations serving every county in the U.S. We distribute food and grocery products, increase public awareness of domestic hunger, and advocate for policies that benefit America's hungry. In Kentucky God's Pantry Food Bank is a member of the Kentucky Association of Second Harvest Food Banks (KASHFB). The seven America's Second Harvest Food Banks working in Kentucky join together to maximize the effectiveness of America's Second Harvest Food Banks serving the state. Collectively, KASHFB members distribute more than 27 million pounds of food to 120 Kentucky counties through 900 member agencies. The other members of KASHFB are the Tri-State Food Bank, Evansville, Ind., America's Second Harvest of Kentucky's Heartland Food Bank, Elizabethtown, Ky., FreeStore Food Bank, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dare to Care Food Bank, Louisville, Ky. And Huntington Area Food Bank, Huntington, W. Va.
History:
Fifty-two years ago, a concerned citizen named Mim Hunt began distributing food out of the basement of her home to those in need of assistance. Through the years, this small effort grew into the large-scale hunger relief organization that God's Pantry Food Bank is today.
