Volunteers are needed to help Spanish speaking applicants with the application process to receive Christmas assistance (food and toys). Often families have limited English abilities and find the process extremely difficult. Spanish speaking volunteers would go through the process with families as they come to register for Christmas assistance.

Plans are underway for the 2008 Special Olympics Kentucky Area 8 Bowling Tournament to be be held on October 25th and 26th in Lexington at Eastland Lanes. Volunteers are needed to serve as lane workers (ensure that athletes bowl in order, assist athletes, etc) and to help with awards (issue awards to athletes and partners).

Community Action Council, in collaboration with Kentucky Utilities, will be conducting the 4th Annual Winterblitz on November 1, 2008. Winterblitz is a program designed to winterize the homes of our low-income, disabled and elderly neighbors with the help of volunteers. A team of 3 to 5 volunteers will go out into the community to winterize the homes of those who need it most.

We are searching for individuals to help serve our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. We also need volunteers to help with the set up and tear down of the events. Thanksgiving dinner will actually be held on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (11/26). Christmas Dinner will be held on Christmas Day (12/25). Both events are scheduled to be held at Broadway Christian Church.
