The mission of ITNNorthCentralConnecticut is to provide a community-based, and community supported, economically sustainable and consumer-oriented, quality transportation service for seniors and the visually impaired.
Description:
This innovative transportation service is designed to replicate the comfort, convenience and feeling of private automobile ownership. We offer rides 24/7, use cars only provided by volunteers and go anywhere in the service area. Seniors become dues-paying members at a nominal fee and open Personal Transportation Accounts to pay for their rides. The fees cover roughly half the true cost of the ride. We rely on community support for the balance of our income needs. The ITN Model is consumer oriented. All decisions about the use of the service reside with the customer. Seniors describe the ITN service as "the next best thing to driving."
History:
We are a new Affiliate of ITNAmerica in Portland, ME. Our beginning funding came from a planning grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services. We are guided by the ITN Model and will be self-sustaining and free of any government funding by year four.
