The mission of the Avon Historical Society, Inc. is to collect, preserve, utilize, publish, display, promote and preserve the history and heritage of Avon.
Description:
The Society shall have the following purposes: A. To locate, procure and and preserve documents, maps, pictures and personal property pertaining to the history and to the citizens of the Avon area. B. To maintain and display for public benefit and education a collection of historical items which may be acquired by the Society through gift, purchase or other means. C. To identify, mark, and seek to preserve such buildings, location, and objects as are of historical interest within the area. D. To record and preserve those facts and traditions which presently exist only in the memories of citizens. E. To record current history for the benefit of future generations of the Avon era. F. To gather, edit, publish and circulate information of interest to our members and relation to the objectives of this Society.
History:
The Society was formed in 1974 in response to the proposed demolition of a one room school house. The Society relocated the building to town owned land and established the first museum in the community.
