Description:
Prevent Child Abuse Connecticut, a program of Wheeler Clinic, is a nonprofit program that provides family support and education services to prevent child abuse and neglect. The educational services include trainings for mandated reporters, home visitors, child care providers and school personnel. Parenting workshops are available as well as curricula on Shaken Baby Syndrome, and the Kids on the Block personal safety puppetry program for children. Family support services include a statewide network of parent support and education programs and certified training for the Healthy Families America initiative and Family Development Credential. A 1-800-CHILDREN information line is available.
History:
Since 1978, Prevent Child Abuse Connecticut has been providing family support services and education to fulfill its mission to prevent all forms of child abuse and neglect. The program is a chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, and shares the vision in which every child lives in a community committed to preventing child abuse.
