The mission of Interval House is to provide services to prevent and break the cycle of family and intimate partner abuse. We strive to reach all persons at risk and bring about social change.

Description:
Interval House serves 24 towns from Avon to Andover and is Connecticut's largest non-profit domestic violence intervention and prevention organization.

Providing comprehensive services from community education to crisis intervention, Interval House staff and volunteers have offered their expertise to victims of domestic violence and their children for 30 years.

Interval House is the only organization in Central Connecticut solely dedicated to addressing domestic violence.

Services include: 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, crisis-counseling, advocacy, support groups, advocacy in Criminal and Civil courts, programs for children, information and referral, and community education.

History:
Hartford Interval House, Inc. was established in 1977 when three groups of women from diverse backgrounds joined together to help battered women.

Interval House, as it is known publicly, opened its shelter door in April, 1978. This 20-bed facility provides an "interval" of safety for women while they assess their situation and make choices for themselves and their children.

In 1994 a satellite office, Interval House East, was opened to serve eleven towns east of Hartford and across the Connecticut River. In April 1999 another satellite office, Interval House West, was opened to serve towns west of Hartford and in the Farmington Valley. By having offices at locations more convenient for clients, Interval House is better able to provide direct services.
