Connecticut Rivers Council exists to:

-Offer young people responsible fun and adventure

-Instill in them lifetime values and develop in them
ethical decision making skills as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law

-Train young people in citizenship, service and
leadership

-Serve Connecticut's communities and families with a
quality, values-based program

Description:
Boy Scouting is a comprehensive youth development program serving boys and young men grades 1-12 and young women grades 9-12. Our methods include age appropriate adventure in the outdoors, community service, advancement/recognition, association with positive adult role models and experiential education.

Cub Scouting is family and neighborhood-based and designed to meet the developmental needs of boys grades 1-5.

Boy Scouting, while still neighborhood centered is more youth-driven under the supervision of fewer adult volunteers.

Venturing is the co-ed young adult version of the BSA serving high school and college-aged students with programs of high adventure, community service, leadership development, athletics, youth ministry and avocational pursuits.

A separate division called Exploring/Learning for Life is delivered in partnership with schools, municipalities and businesses.

The ultimate goal is positive character development; responsibility, contributing citizenship, and personal, mental and emotional fitness. As a by-product, young people learn life skills such as leadership, positive decision-making, respect for others and themselves, and how to set and achieve goals.

History:
Connecticut Rivers Council is the result of a merging of resources between the former Long Rivers and Indian Trails councils in 1994 making CT Rivers the largest of four Boy Scout councils state-wide.

Under a variety of council names, Scouting has existed in the greater Hartford area since 1910 providing the programs of character development, citizenship, and fitness to hundreds of thousands of members, adult volunteers and families over that time.

Like all Boy Scout Councils, CT Rivers is a private, non-profit corporation governed by a volunteer board of directors and representatives of the various community organizations which partner with Scouting. Currently more than 714 such civic, fraternal, service educational, commercial, and religious organizations use Boy Scout programming to achieve their own youth outreach goals.

During any calendar year in excess of 38,000 young people and 10,000 adult volunteers are registered with Connecticut Rivers Councils or its subsidiary, Learning for Life.
