Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters (NBBBS) is Connecticut's premiere mentoring organization. Its mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and enable them to become responsible adults by creating one-to-one relationships between the children and caring adult mentor volunteers.
Description:
NBBBS is based in Hartford and has regional offices in Middletown, Tolland and Waterbury serving more than 2,000 disadvantaged youngsters in 111 of 169 towns and cities in CT. We improve the lives of 6 to 17-year-olds and enable them to become productive, responsible members of society. We achieve this by offering three programs: Community-Based Programs, School/Site-Based Programs, and Foster Grandparent Programs.
History:
Begun in New York City in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is the oldest one-to-one youth service organization in the country. Today, there are over 500 Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates throughout the United States. Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters was founded in Connecticut nearly 40 years ago. It is listed in the top 10 percent of the parent organization's 500 nationwide affiliates, and is the largest of the 3 Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations in the state.
