The Governor's Prevention Partnership is a non-profit, public-private alliance whose mission is to lead a statewide prevention movement that promotes the health, safety and well-being of the state's future and current workforce.
Description:
The Governors Prevention Partnership focuses its drug and alcohol prevention efforts on:
-Parents and families who effectively manage their children's behavior and communicate with them about problems such as drugs
-A relationship with a mentor
-School and campuses that foster academic success
-Opportunities for young people to assume service and leadership roles
-Community and community institutions that create safe and drug-free enviroments; and
-Media campaigns that positively influence attitudes and behaviors.
History:
The Governor's Prevention Partnership was incorporated in 1989 by Governor William A. O'Neill and a group of Connecticut business leaders. The organization was given the charge to protect the strength of Connecticut's present and future workforce by leading a systematic attack on behavioral and human problems that threaten youth and adults with a particular focus on alcohol and drug abuse.
