The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective empowers Individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities to lead healthy lives through the provision of health and support services, education and advocacy.
Description:
HGLHC's mission reaches ever-increasing numbers of people each year with the provision of programs such as RainbowRoom (for LGBTQ teens and young adults), Hep Squad (Hepatitis education and vaccinations), and a recently-unveiled anti-homophobia campaign, co-sponsored by the Hispanic Health Council. HGLHC also continues to operate long-running services such as the weekly STD Clinic, the Men's and Women's Support Groups, and health education and LGBT-awareness workshops and trainings. In addition, HGLHC maintains an up-to-date referral database for clients seeking services with other LGBT-friendly providers in Connecticut.
History:
Founded in 1983 as The Hartford Gay Health Collective by volunteer health professionals, the organization was incorporated in 1986 as The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective, Inc. (HGLHC) a 501(c)3 agency. In the 21 years since its inception, HGLHC has grown from a small group of volunteers to an agency with 7 full time and 4 part time employees and nearly 100 volunteers serving a racially, ethnically and gender diverse population. According to its mission, 'The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective empowers individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities to lead healthy lives through the provision of health and support services, education and advocacy.' Services include screening and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, hepatitis A&B immunization, HIV counseling and testing, breast cancer awareness, HIV prevention case management, LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) youth services, support groups and dental services and complementary therapy for persons with HIV/AIDS.

Take Exit 48, Asylum Street.
At stop light, take a right onto Farmington Avenue.
At the next light, turn left onto Broad Street.
Follow Broad Street through eight lights until you cross New Britain Avenue.
(The eighth light crosses New Britain Avenue.)
1841 Broad Street is a long brick building on the right hand side of the street.
From I-84 East
Take Exit 48B, Capitol Avenue
At your first stop, take a Right onto Capitol Avenue.
Take a Left onto Broad Street.
Follow Broad Street through six lights until you cross New Britain Avenue.
(The sixth light crosses New Britain Avenue.)
1841 Broad Street is a long brick building on the right hand side of the street.
From I-91 North
Take Exit 27, Brainard Road/Airport Road. Keep left at the end of the exit.
Turn Left at the light onto Brainard Road.
Turn Left at the next light onto Airport Road (which becomes Brown Street).
Continue on Brown Street to Maple Avenue. Take a Right at Maple Avenue.
Go one block and take a diagonal left onto Broad Street (just before the Citgo station).
Proceed on Broad Street through four stop signs, the last of which will be Mountford Street.

From I-91 South
