Bacon Congregate is a 23 unit apartment complex for frail elderly residents. We offer congregate services and assisted living services. Our goal is to allow residents to remain in their homes in the community as long as possible. Our program allows residents to age with dignity and self-sufficiency.
Description:
Residents at Bacon are very low income and pay 30% of their adjusted income for rent, which includes utilities. Bacon Congregate provides congregate services and assisted living services to its residents. Our congregate services include one meal a day, every day; light housekeeping, once a week; and 24 hour security. Assisted Living services include help with laundry, personal care and nursing services. In addition, we provide programming to our residents which includes educational programs, parties, trips and recreational activities.
History:
Bacon Congregate is housed in a historic building in the south end of Hartford. The building was formerly the Bacon Bottling Company, a soda pop factory. The building had been abandoned but was rehabbed for elderly housing in 1984. Bacon is owned by a non-profit housing developer, Sheldon Oak Central. Bacon is one of the original congregate facilities funded by the State of Connecticut.
