The Harriet Stowe Center preserves and interprets Stowe’s Hartford home and the Center’s historic collections, promotes vibrant discussion of her life and work, and inspires commitment to social justice and positive change.



Description:
Harriet Beecher Stowe is an author best known for the influential anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. The Stowe Center is located on Forest Street in Hartford and consists of three buildings: the Stowe House where she lived from 1873 until her death in 1896; the Katharine Seymour Day House which houses a research library and administrative offices; and the Visitor Center and Museum Shop. The buildings are on 2.5 acres with recreated Victorian gardens in the 19th century neighborhood of Nook Farm.
