Position title: Board Position
Description: The Board provides overall direction and guidance to the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective, working with the staff to formulate policy and programs, determining which services will be offered and establishing the fiscal budget. Roles of the Board of Directors: 1. Set policy 2. Plan and establish goals and objectives 3. Raise funds for HGLHC 4. Hire and evaluate the Executive Director 5. Stewardship of assets The Board is a diverse group of people with various backgrounds, who are all volunteers. Board members must: 1.) Be educated on the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective's and its history, goals, objectives, policies, philosophy, clients/constituencies, staff, current situation, problems and needs. 2.) Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Board and how they differ from the roles and responsibilities of the HGLHC staff. 3.) Serve actively on at least one Board committee (Executive, Fund Development, Board Development and Community Affairs). 4.) Attend all monthly Board meetings. 5.) Participate in organizational activities, like special events and fundraisers. 6.) Contribute financially to HGLHC, as agreed upon by the Board. 7.) Support all Board decisions once they are made. 8.) Maintain confidentiality on all Board discussions. 9.) Keep abreast of national, state and local trends that affect HGLHC and its clients/constituencies. 10.) Be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable voice for HGLHC and spread the word, make connections for HGLHC, act as an advocate.
