Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS) utilizes a massive volunteer force of several thousand to serve those in need in our community. SFBFS is currently recruiting an intern to help grow the volunteer program in a variety of capacities. Many tasks listed below are administrative, but there is an opportunity for an intern to garner valuable skills in public speaking, writing, networking and more. This is a great opportunity for an individual wanting non-profit experience.

The Volunteer Program at SFBFS employs one full-time Volunteer Manager at the Oak Park facility and one full-time Volunteer & Program Coordinator at the Saca Community Learning Center. The Volunteer Program Intern will be supervised by the Volunteer Manager.

The Volunteer Program Intern would assist the Volunteer Manager and Coordinator in the following capacities:

  • Answer phone calls & reply to e-mails regarding volunteer opportunities
  • Organize and record volunteer information (applications, timesheets)
  • Complete data and run statistics for volunteer reporting purposes
  • Update volunteer-related information on SFBFS’s Web site
  • Design new volunteer projects including volunteer opportunities for youth
  • Assemble Volunteer Orientation packets
  • Coordinate group volunteer opportunities
  • Write articles for monthly newsletter
  • Perform online research on volunteer-related subjects
  • Lead facility tours
  • Table at local outreach events
  • Skills Required:

    • Ability to work well with volunteers of all ages (youth, teens, adults, elderly)
    • Phone & E-mail etiquette
    • Computer basics: e-mail, internet search, data entry, Excel, Word
    • Positive attitude and flexibility

    • Time Requirement:
    • Minimum 3 month commitment
    • Minimum 4 hours/week
    • Flexible with days during the week and shift times
