Covering Kids and Families of Central Indiana is an outreach program designed specifically to assist individuals with completing paperwork required for Hoosier Healthwise and Health Advantage. Our goal is to ensure that all families have access to affordable healthcare.
Description:
Covering Kids and Families partners with schools, hospitals, clinics and various other community programs to assist children and families with their healthcare needs.
Hoosier Healthwise is available for children, women that are pregnant and persons with disabilities. The Health Advantage network is available for adults. Both programs include services such as hospital care, doctor visits and check-ups, lab and x-ray services, mental health services, dental check-ups, transportation, prescriptions, immunizations and many other additional services.
History:
Indiana was first awarded a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 1999 for the Covering Kids initiative. The Central Indiana Coalition was then formed. In 2001,the Central Indiana Office grew to a staff of 15, moved to a larger office space, and expanded outreach services into 7 other counties. The counties we currently serve include: Marion, Johnson, Shelby, Morgan, Hendricks, Hancock, Hamilton, and Boone counties.
One of our initiatives to reach more children and families includes our annual Back to School Family Day. Last year we served 6,478 individuals, administered 78 immunizations, 10 lead tests, 91 vision screenings and supplied 2,300 backpacks w/school supplies included.
We are continuously working to find and enroll families in Central Indiana and the surrounding counties that need assistance to cover the cost of health services.
