Barbara B. Jordan YMCA

Last updated on August 22, 2008 The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Description: The Barbara B. Jordan YMCA is a Morgan County based health, recreation and social service organization. Major program areas include: aquatics, before & after school programming, youth sports, day camp, preschool, teen leadership development, and health and fitness. History: The Barbara B. Jordan YMCA was chartered to serve Morgan County in 1961, established by local volunteers to fulfill the need for "leisure time, character building activity for youth". In 1970 a YMCA facility with gymnasium, swimming pool, exercise areas and classrooms was opened. From 1965 until 1998, the Barbara B. Jordan YMCA was a branch of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. In January 1998, the YMCA Board of Directors, with the full support and encouragement of the Indianapolis Association, assumed the status of an independent YMCA.
