The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
Description:
We offer residents of Marion County with intellectual disabilities access to a variety of sports on a year-round basis. We combine those with and without intellectual disabilities on Unified teams and also have Traditional, or all disabled, teams. The sports we currently offer are basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, golf, athletics, flag football, distance walking, aquatics, bowling and bocce.
