The mission of PACE/OAR, Inc. (Public Action in Correctional Effort/Offender Aid and Restoration)is to provide a variety of services to help offenders, ex-offenders, and their families to lead productive and responsible lives in their community.
Description:
PACE/OAR provides both pre- and post-release services to ex-offenders and their families by developing a continuum of care that includes employment services, case management, and referrals for housing, emergency assistance and basic needs. Volunteers are needed to assist with special events ranging from our annual yard sale to a state wide conference in April. Volunteers can also assist clients in preparing a resume, practicing interviewing skills or serve as a mentor to a client over a one year period of time.
History:
PACE/OAR was officially established in December 2002 as an effort to combine two of Indianapolis' oldest and most decorated non-profit criminal justice agencies. PACE, Public Action in Correctional Effort, was founded in Indiana in 1960 to provide volunteer visitors to prisoners at the Indiana Reformatory at Pendleton, IN. Since that time, it has broadened its volunteer activities to include work at other institutions on the state and county levels, as well as to undertake other activities on behalf of those incarcerated or recently released from penal institutions. OAR is a national movement that began in Richmond, Virginia in 1968. Offender Aid and Restoration of Marion County was founded in 1982 by concerned community leaders and members of the clergy, as a means of providing pre-release and post-incarcerated services to Marion County Jail inmates.
