MISSION: To promote civic, social and personal responsibility in the Crooked Creek service area by providing quality services that enhance the lives of individuals and families.
Description:
Serve low and moderate income families, at-risk children and youth residing primarily within the boundaries of I-465 to north and west, 38th Street to the south and Spring Mill/White River to the east. Services include: Head Start site, After-school activities, Teen Opportunity Program (education and employment), Senior Activities, ABE/GED, ESL, Citizenship preparation, job search assistance, emergency food, shelter and utility assistance.
History:
Crooked Creek Multi Service Center was established in 1984 as one of 13 human service agencies serving Marion county. The organization functioned in a small white frame house until relocating to its current site at 71st and Michigan Road--an old training center for Steak & Shake. In August 2001, the Center launched a capital campaign to update and expand the facility. Renovations were completed in December 2002, allowing for a significant expansion of services. During 2003, the Center reached 100 preschoolers through a partnership with Head Start, 100 children through after school programs, and 100 pre-teens and youth through summer enrichment programs as well as hundreds of adults who participated in day and evening education and employment programs. With the generous donation of an adjacent parcel of land just to the north of the Center and funding from United Way the Center is now in the process of building a family pavilion to meet the growing demand for youth and family services. The Center is an active partner in other community improvement initiatives including affordable housing, economic development, cultural appreciation, health improvement and recreational services that generally improve the quality of life for all residents of the area.
