The Somerset Art Association is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to furthering the awareness and understanding of and participation in the visual arts by providing opportunities for peoples throughout New Jersey for artistic creation and art appreciation in a welcoming environment.
Description:
The Somerset Art Association's (SAA) year round school offers studio courses for children as young as four, teens and adults in a variety of mediums and skill levels. In addition, SAA houses the Johnson Gallery, presenting changing art exhibitions throughout the year. Through continuing education, exhibitions, bus tours, lectures, artist demonstrations, special events and community partnership projects, SAA strives to offer the public a wide choice of visual art related activities to enjoy and explore.
History:
The Somerset Art Association was founded in 1970 by a group of local art enthusiasts. Classes and exhibitions were originally held in various local sites until a successful capital campaign in 1995 moved SAA into its current home, c. 1912 former school house in Bedminster, NJ.
