Interfaith Caregivers Trenton/Faith in Action, Inc. is a coalition of religious and community organizations working together to help seniors and people with disabilities. ICT is dedicated to promoting the independence and dignity of homebound elderly and people with disabilities by matching them with caring volunteers who assist them with the tasks of everyday life.
Description:
Interfaith Caregivers helps recruit, train and match volunteers who provide non-medical support services to homebound individuals free of charge. The services offered include: shopping and errands, transportation to appointments, friendly visits, indoor/outdoor chores, minor household repairs, occasional meal preparation, clerical assistance, short-term respite care, telephone reassurance, and links to other community services. ICT strengthens the existing outreach ministries of congregations while also linking them with the network of community health care and social service organizations. Interfaith Caregivers sponsors workshops and seminars to increase awareness of local resources and develop skills in serving seniors and people with disabilities.
History:
Interfaith Caregivers was founded by the Trenton Ecumenical Area Ministry (TEAM) in 1994, with a Faith in Action seed grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. ICT is an independent non-profit organization. Since 1994, 25 member congregations have joined Interfaith Caregivers.
