Project Acorn funds quality preschool education for children of working families in need in Morris County and surrounding communities.
Description:
Project Acorn does not operate a preschool program, but places children in highly regarded preschool programs. For the Fall 2008 school year, we will send 80 children to different preschools. The average cost for a half day preschool program is $3,500 and the median income level for Project Acorn families is $27,000, making preschool unaffordable for many children. Studies have demonstrated that early childhood education affects everything in a child's life: intellectual development, self confidence and even future earning potential. The Project Acorn Approach provides the foundation for young children to grow into responsible and productive adults. We need and rely on volunteers to help us research preschools, read applications, assist with various mailings, write grants, and help with various administrative tasks. We also are always looking for volunteers who speak Spanish.
