Harmonium Choral Society performs a diverse repertoire of vocal music at a high artistic level to foster enjoyment and appreciation of choral singing.
Description:
Harmonium's 80 volunteer singers range in age from high school students through seniors, and include many professional musicians and music educators. Our regular concert season includes six performances in Morristown and Madison.
In addition to the full chorus, Harmonium sponsors the Harmonium Chamber Singers, a select group of 18 singers specializing in a cappella chamber works, as well as the Harmonium Outreach Chorus, which performs educational programs at school assemblies, nursing homes and other venues in northern NJ.
History:
Founded in 1979, Harmonium has been led by Artistic Director Dr. Anne Matlack since 1987. We have been committed to commissioning new works from established and emerging composers, and in 1998 we established an annual High School Composition Contest to encourage young composers. Harmonium has toured England and Wales, Eastern Europe, and Northern Italy. We're currently planning a trip to Spain and Portugal for the summer of 2009.
