Pass It Along's Mission is to awaken, validate, and nourish the innate desire to "give back" by mobilizing youth as community partners. Through innovative partnerships, Pass It Along offers a multifaceted approach to help individuals identify their gifts and provides opportunities to pass them along. Promoting the benefits of sustained civic action, our program is designed to foster volunteerism, reflection, and self-exploration.
Description:
Our organization is rooted in the belief that every individual has the power to make a difference and that effective volunteer action is the path to lasting change. Our Program consists of the following areas: Education & Leadership - Youth Council; Citizen Academy; Internships; and Youth Conference. Service in Action - Children and Families in Need; Education, Enrichment & Literacy; Environmental Preservation; Animal Care; Hunger & Homelessness; Elderly and Home Bound Senior Care; Living with Disabilities & Terminal Illness; and Renovation, Revitalization & Repair. Self-Exploration & Reflection - Issues Forum; Girl Power; Writing Circles; Poetry Slams; Community Cinema; and You Decide. Through these program areas we have launched tutoring and mentoring programs with both local children and inner city children, self-esteem programs for young girls through Girl Power, cooking food for the homeless, gifts for children in need during the holidays, and much, much more. We have a very strong Youth Council of which members come from several area high schools. We also have a few high schools that have Pass It Along chapters in the schools themselves. Some of our Special Events include, A Celebration of Service Week in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Global Youth Service Day activities, Serve-A-Thon, Service in the Sun, Field of Hope, an annual Youth Conference, and Season of Hope which is a series of programs around the holidays that reach out to different areas of need for our community. For more information on all of our programs and events, please go to our website www.passitalong.org and you will find more details on all of these volunteer opportunities.
History:
Pass It Along was officially founded on December 27, 2001, as a new way for people to make a difference in their community. Pass It Along was inspired by a group of young children who had great passion for helping those in need. This program was bundled with a spirit of fun and the promise of direct, tangible, community impact. Pass It Along is committed to lighting the flame and passing along the joy and enthusiasm that comes from serving others.
