Our goal is to enable adults who read below 6th grade level and students who need English as their second language to achieve personal, job-related and family goals through literacy. All services are free to students. We provide volunteer tutor training in a twenty-one hour course offered several times a year.
Description:
We provide free confidential volunteer tutoring to adults in public buildings throughout Mercer County. Tutors may work one-on-one with a student, or they may choose a small group of students, or a small group within a classroom situation.
History:
Literacy Volunteers in Mercer County was incorporated in 1977. It is a nationally accredited branch of the parent organization, ProLiteracy America. The branch currently has more than 200 active tutors working with 400 students. This past year LV-MC offered 6 tutor training courses, including daytime and evening sessions.
