Greater Mercer Ride Provide is a community-based, non-profit transportation service for seniors and visually impaired adults in Mercer County, NJ. Greater Mercer Ride Provide believes that seniors and visually impaired adults can and should remain active parts of their communities when they can no longer or choose not to drive.
Description:
Greater Mercer Ride Provide provides 24 hour, 7 day a week door to door transportation for seniors and visually impaired adults (based on driver availability). The service uses a combination of paid and volunteer drivers to transport seniors using automobiles not vans or buses. Drivers can help open doors and carry groceries or packages, if needed. Greater Mercer Ride Provide does not restrict the trip purpose or destination in the service area, currently a ten mile radius around Quakerbridge Mall.
History:
Greater Mercer Ride Provide began on October 4, 2006 with a kick off event featuring the mayors and other dignitaries from the 13 Mercer County municipalities. The service has expanded greatly since its beginning, receiving calls every day from people looking for rides. Greater Mercer Ride Provide now seeks more volunteer drivers to help provide rides for seniors and visually impaired adults in their communities. Volunteers are able to choose where and when they drive. They can volunteer as little as once a month or as often as everyday, during the day, at night or on weekends; it's up to them.
