Project SPAN provides a wide range of supportive services to DYFS referred families that reside in Middlesex County. After going through a comprehensive screening and training process adult volunteers provide guidance, information, emotional support and respite to families with the ultimate goal of decreasing the incidence of child abuse and/or neglect.
Description:
SPAN volunteers can serve as mentors/big brothers/big sisters or parent aides. Our program requires that you spend 4 to 6 hours per week with your client and that you pass motor vehicle and police checks. We conduct trainings in September and January.
History:
Project SPAN started in 1977 and current staff has been with the program since 1983. SPAN is funded by DYFS and the Middlesex County freeholders.
