Professional counseling is offered to help individuals, children, and families cope better with a variety of problems. We provide children's services and special programs, as well as adoption services to prospective adoptive parents and foster care for infants.
Description:
United Family and Children's Society (UFCS) is a licensed mental health counseling and adoption agency. Services are provided to residents in portions of Union, Somerset and Middlesex County. UFCS offers mental health counseling for individuals, families and children, psychiatric assessment, infant foster care, adoption services and advocacy for de-institutionalized adults. Specialties include ADHD programs, psychological testing, firesetting assessments, custody evaluations, a young mothers group and an anger management series for adults and adolescents. Foster parents for infants are needed.
History:
United Family, established in 1877, is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in NJ. The agency is a direct descendant organization of the first private organized efforts to help needy people in the Greater Plainfield Area. The Children's Home Association (est. 1877) eventually merged with the Plainfield Relief Society (est. 1878). Over the decades, The Charity Organization Society (1907), United Catholic Aid Society and the United Hebrew Charity Organization were merged into one organization in 1942 and became known as United Family and Children's Society. The agency became an IRS approved 501(c)(3) organization eligible for tax-deductible donations in 1942.
